Playground slide
If you are looking for a playground to go to, but you
are not sure about the safety of the playground slide there, test it
first. Have your child slide down and block the bottom, ready to catch
them. If your child can slow down or hop off on his or her own, you
can feel safe about the slide.
Often a playground slide will have a flatter end to allow the child
to slow down or stop him or herself. These are great slides because
children will rarely fall at the bottom. So a slide with an extended
end can be reassuring as well.
The most popular playground slide is the “curly slide”
as we used to call it. These slides spiral down and are also usually
made of plastic. Of course, the bigger kids always want to “prove
themselves”—so to speak, by pushing fast down the longest,
steepest and fastest slide.
